Wow, I havn't blogged in several months.  Not that I ever blogged anything deep or anything but ever since I started working at a place that blocks websights like Xanga I haven't blogged much since I don't do anything at home.  Ah well, now I found a computer that is a little "free-er" than the other computers and I can type as long as I don't get caught.

I was rather dumb last week because I thought it would be a good idea to pick up a bunch of hours all in one week.  I will work 68 hours in 6 days, oops, all while I try to watch the olympics and sleep.  But the money will be good.

I had a huge success recently.  On Saturday I finally put on the size pants under what I had been wearing and it fit pretty well.  So today is the second day that I have been wearing smaller work pants.  Yesterday I went to the Gap and bought new jeans in the same size (one size less than what I was wearing), I haven't officially worn them yet but they fit rather nicely when I tried them on.  One down (actually I guess it is too, with the way sizes go) a few more to go.

Five months until the half marathon in Disney!  Got to work harder.

The last thing going on is class starts in a week and a half.  I have been used to driving for less than a half hour total every day just going to and from work.  Now I will have to drive to COD 4 times a week and that adds 50 minutes of driving each day.  So four days a week I have to go to class, three of those times it will only be for 50 minutes of class, the other day is for up to 2 hours and 50 minutes of lab.  The class will be interesting, Anatomy and Physiology.  I have a coloring book and colored pencils to apparently help me learn Anatomy.  The books almost cost more than the class since I had to buy a brand new book, a lab manuel, photo atlas, coloring book, and a few other odds and ends.  Hence the overtime at work, I have to pay for another class soon so I need a few bucks in the bank.

Last night, while I worked on a blanket for my cousins baby girl that is not yet born, I watched the 4x100 mens relay.  I watched as the French slowly got farther and farther ahead of the USA team until the last 25 meters when the last US swimmer worked his way to barely touch the wall 8/10ths of a second ahead of the French, keeping the gold medal hopes of Michael Phelps alive and taking back that event for the USA.  I stood up as I watched him start to catch up and I was jumping when I saw that the US had won the race, I was the best swimming event I had ever watched, especially since the French had been trash talking the day before and that only added fuel to the US team's fire.

Time to go, got to get some work done.  I guess.

I have neglected Xanga!  I am so sorry.  I will try to do better.

Hello.

Wednesday, April 04, 2007

It has been a little while since I have written some "observations" so today I will share.  Earlier today I was sitting in Barnes and Noble downtown Naperville in a comfy couch along the windows.  Just a couple minutes after I sat down I became extremely distracted by a group of about 15 people across the street at Jimmy’s Grill.  They had received a delivery of around 185 chairs and 20 barstools and the boxes filled the sidewalk, handicap parking spaces, and spilled out into the street (fortunately it was a side street that isn’t as busy).  This group of people had the task to unpack all of the boxes (outside in the now-freezing and extremely windy weather).  They had to break down the boxes and then load the chairs (28 at a time) into the back of a small truck to be transferred to some other location (I will have to investigate if they are going to a new restaurant in town).

The funniest part of the process was when a girl would run after the plastic bags that kept breaking free from whatever had been temporarily holding it captive.  The bags would float away with the wind and, once one of the girls noticed them, she would go chasing after one to four bags.  Sometimes a bag would venture out into the main road and one of the girls would either have to wait for traffic to let up or, if the traffic was light, run out and grab the little escape artist.

What was even more entertaining was the reaction to the bags of people walking by.  Most of the time they would completely ignore them, even though some of the people came within arms length of the bags.  Only twice did someone react to the bags and that was only because the bags attacked their legs.  Both times the guys just kicked the bag away and kept walking, one time right in front of the girl trying to catch the bag.

Towards the end of the show, three guys were leaving (it must have been break time) when one of the girls called out to them and one of the guys had to grab a runaway bag that was heading in his direction.  That was the only time a guy actually chased down a bag.

During this whole ordeal, the guy sitting in the comfy chair across from me is sleeping away, his head slowly sinking more and more into his chest and his book is slowly closing.

Back to the outside entertainment.  Now that most of the chairs are gone and all of the empty, broken boxes are stacked up, a guy takes a smoke-break and sits on the pile of cardboard to make sure they don’t float away.  After a minute of sitting there, the five girls came and crowded around him, he must have loved that, except then they all left and went inside, leaving him to the cold, his cigarette, a few left over chairs, and all of those boxes.  Oh, how nice, one of them is back, and then she is gone.

The last load is leaving, there are two extra barstools so they just throw them on top of the pile and now the show is almost over, they only have to deal with all of that cardboard.

Conclusion:  As I walk out of Barnes and Noble and into the cold, a lady and her 5-year-old are walking in.  The 5-year-old gets excited and exclaims “a book store!  Yay!”

On another note (if you have gotten this far):  “When it rains, it pours.”  This can be a good thing (even though right now it is snowing a little).  Yesterday I set up an interview with Central DuPage Hospital; today I set up an interview with Edwards Hospital.  Thursday at 2 is my interview with CDH and Saturday at 1 is my interview with Edwards.  I am familiar with Edwards and I know it is a great place to work; it is full time and close to home.  CDH (I applied for a position at the Wheaton location) is 46 hours per week but it is close to COD, they might not pay as well as Edwards since they are a county Hospital.

Yikes, it has been a long time since I have posted anything.  Thanks to the wonderful world of COD I have a new subject that I got to observe for an hour or two today.  I was sitting in one of the study/break rooms trying to do some homework when I had to stop and write down everything that was going on right in front of me.  I was sitting on a couch with a lady sitting at a table right in front of me.  The first time I noticed her was when she cleared her throat and asked anyone who was listening if the cafeteria is open.  So both I and the girl sitting next to me said it was.  This is when the story gets a little frightening, just to warn you, the woman stood up to reveal that she definitely did not have a bra on and she must have had several children because she sagged really bad.  She was moving around her table and the two girls were just wobbling around in her rather large yellow sweater.  Fortunately she left, unfortunately she came back with a bad of cheetoes and a sandwich.  When she sat down, her girls almost rested on her legs.  She commenced eating her cheetoes and sandwich in a very messy and noisy manner spreading crumbs all over the table, floor, her face, her shirt, lap, and chair.  Once the noise of her meal subsided she got up and “attempted” to clean up, but she ended up just spreading things around even more and emptying the contents of her lap onto the floor.  Silence prevailed for a short period of time but ended when the lady bought a Code Red Mountain Dew from the machine and proceeded to drink at least half of it right away.  This is when the “music” started, a chorus of burps, sighs, sniffs, and coughs proceeded from her mouth with almost every breath and at one point she exclaimed “tired”

Moral of the story, if you ever want to do a little people watching, find a little corner of COD to hang out in and get ready to watch the show, you are sure to find something to write home about.
